Understanding What it Means To Sell Products Online

Most of the people that read this blog, and are new to The Shipper, are also new to selling products online.  If you fit in this category then please pay attention to what I am about to say in this post.

When you start to sell products online either through your site,  Amazon, eBay or other buying solution sites it is important to not get confused and trying to just sell one product.  I see this when people are trying to narrow down a niche and they think that narrowing down a niche means to "only sell one product" such as; if I am selling fishing poles I can only sell one fishing pole"  (not true).   I am amazed that there is even confusion, but I want to clear it up once and for all.

If you are selling fishing poles and that is your niche (and you want to keep it very focused) then find other fishing poles to add to the site (rather then just one type and one brand).   That would make boring browsing for your potential customers.  I have no problem adding products like tackle boxes, fishing hats etc. to a site that sells fishing poles because it fits within the niche.  As long as you are finding great keywords to drive traffic then you have nothing to worry about with adding more then just one product to a site.  I just don't want you thinking that narrowing down a niche means just finding one product (as in one fishing pole).

You are ok to put as many related items as you like, research out the keywords, target them and make your money!  If you have a site that has more options for browsers then you will keep people longer and give your site a better chance of making money.  Even if you have some more competitive products on your website that you know you will never be found for on the search engines, you can still add them as bonus products for the people that find your through the less competitive keywords etc.

I hope this clears up any confusion for those new to selling products online, and wanting to sell multiple products on the same site.  Feel free to stop over at The Shipper's contact us page and ask any questions you have that we may be able to clear up.
