4 Powerful Things That Adding Testimonials Will Do For Your Website

I know adding testimonials can be a hard thing for the brand new business owner, so I have some suggestions to overcome that hurdle in just a second.  Right now I want to tell you about the powerful advantages of websites that have testimonials over the sites that do not.

  1. Honesty - People like an honest website.  Thus, people like reading testimonials because it shows honesty and is un-biased when it comes to the product they are thinking about buying.  How come consumer reports does so well?  It is honest opinions about products we use, rated by people who use them!  ZDNet is a powerful example of this too.  I get almost every single one of my electronics reviews off of that site because the reviews and testimonials are raw and honest.   Don't fluff it up, just give me the nuts and blots.  I think if you can give the raw, (un-cut) honest testimonials that people give you, potential buyers will be able to tell that the story is not made up or fabricated in anyway.  They will trust your site and have more faith in the product they are thinking about purchasing.  Here are some great examples of testimonials done by people who have purchased, and given reviews on memory foam mattresses.
  2. Make More Sales (Money) - A good majority of the people I talk to that have purchased products from me (when I ask them), tell me they did so because of a testimonial they read on the site, or a review they read on some other site.  If I did not have the testimonials, then I probably would have lost some sales.  You will make more sales by having real testimonials on your website.  People like doing research, and part of that research is finding out more information about the product.  You might think they are only price comparing, but they are looking for what other people are saying about the product.  When you can give them this info right on your site, it is very powerful. 
  3. Adding Unique Content - Every time you post a new testimonial you are adding fresh new content to your site.  This is very important with helping out your search engine rankings, and giving the search engine spiders (the computer programs that pick up and include, or index new content) reasons to frequently keep visiting your pages.  You can also add important in-links (internal linking) to products which the search engines will pick up are really relevant based on the testimonial and product (anchor text) you are sending them to.
  4. Bragging Rights - It is not ok for you to go on your website and say how cool your products are.  That is what people expect you to say because you are trying to sell them something.  However; if other people are talking about how good your products are, then you can use those examples on other pages and brag (just a little bit) when appropriate.

Now what to do when your site is brand new and you have no testimonials?  You can always ask your supplier or dropshipper to share some testimonials with you that they have received about the product.  Something I have done in past, has been to offer the product at such a cheap price (or give it away) to a family member or really close friend and ask them to review it.  100% of the time when I have given such a good deal, or just given it to them, the testimony (or review) of the product will be amazing.   It really is worth the money when you get powerful testimonials, so never think you are wasting money by doing this. 

Here is my suggestion - once you have several months, and sales behind the belt, just go back to your customers and simply ask them to write a testimonial for you.  If you have good products, you will not have to worry about getting a bad review.  Even if you do, you do not have to use it on your website.  Take it as constructive criticism, and product analysis, and start making steps to improve the things that were wrong.
