Just wanted to share a quick tip for those getting into Internet business, and more specifically - dropshipping. Make sure that you are planning ahead for a marketing budget.
So many times I see people just create a website, and once they are done think that they are going to automatically be picked up and achieve high rankings by Google (without lifting a finger). That is not the case. If you are not spending a dime on marketing, then you will not be accomplishing anything - period. I would suggest to a brand new Internet business owner who is dropshipping products to start their marketing off with a Pay Per Click (PPC) campagin with Google Adwords. Set a budget, even if your budget is $100.00 a month, make the campaign live on the weekends, and set the budget to spend $25.00 a weekend - just to see how things go. You will be able to figure out a lot of things in a few weekends -
- Does Your Site Convert?
- Does Your Site Look Good Enough To Buy From? (You can start to think of changes to the site to improve, if needed)
- What Is The Conversion Rate? (If you are using PPC with Google they have tools to show you, and there are 3rd party web analytics tools as well)
- Are Your Prices To High?
- How Much Can You Afford To Spend On Marketing? (setting up even a small budget will show you ROI)
- You Will Learn How Much You Can Grow The Business (based on sales, cost of marketing etc)
You need to spend money to make money. People hate hearing that, but there is no way around it. If you have a brand new site, you are not going to have overnight love from the major search engines. If you want to have sales you will need to set up a marketing
budget and
personal financial statement for any and all
fixed assets, even if its a small one, and even if its just for testing purposes (and set up a
Google Adwords PPC campaign). Once you see an return on investment (ROI) you will see that marketing works, make more money, and invest more into other avenues of marketing your business online. I know this is basic, but remember to look at the title of this post!
