So many people ask me on a daily basis what they can do to establish a better relationship with their supplier.  They want to know things like how to get their supplier to give them better prices, or better one on one service (for example).  

For me, its very simple; When it comes to establishing a better relationship with your supplier give them a reason to trust you.  You have to understand how many people come to the supplier wanting to start an Internet business and sell their products.  Most never end up selling their products because they are not serious about making it happen.  Dropshippers have to deal with this on a daily basis, and it ends up wasting a lot of their time.  When you go to them asking for a hand out, this should give you a better idea as to why they won't listen to you.

How to establish trust?  If you are starting to understand and gain a better picture in your head now, you are probably wondering what can be done to establish better trust?  You need to have patience.  You need to establish your business online (with a little time), make some sales and obtain some amazing rankings that brings you traffic.  If you can show your supplier some pretty amazing rankings, and they can see the sales you are sending them business they will be more willing to listen to you.  You can explain to them that the only reason you are not making more sales (because you have the rankings and traffic to prove) is because they are not giving you the best possible prices for your product.  

They just need to see that you are serious and how it could effect them.  If you pull away from them and try to find a new supplier they will lose money.  Once you have found another supplier, you can negotiate better without fear of losing access to your products as well. 

The bottom line comes down to your credibility online and the trust you have established with your business.  When you are brand new you can't expect the supplier to give you the world.  They will eventually end up noticing you when you are bringing them sales, and they see you showing up all over online.  When you establish the trust, then you have the power!
