Expand Your Online Business: Niche Markets

Many people who start an online business reach the point where they ask, “now what?”

You’ve gone through the procedures of starting the business, getting a site, and connecting with online business education professionals, such as Wholesale Match.   You may have even decided what you would like to sell and have starting connecting with dropshippers or wholesalers.  But, now what?!

In order to expand your profit-earning potential, it is beneficial to find your niche market.  A niche market is a very specific area of products that is available to a limited customer base.  For example, you are interested in selling health products.  Once you research this topic a bit more, you find you would like to sell supplements or vitamins.  Since this is still a broad topic, you decide to narrow it down to “green” or organic supplements.  Narrowing down even further, you decide to sell organic heart healthy supplements.

Because you have changed your product to a more specific one, you will have less customers who will desire to buy this product.  However, any customer who is looking for organic heart healthy supplements will most likely go to your site!  Many of the “big box” sites try to have a product for every need, but how many will have a wide variety of your products?  Not very many.  This is why niche marketing is so important for a small online business.
